Syriana and Evil

Steve Burguiere, executive producer and head writer for the Glenn Beck Radio Program, saw Syriana over the weekend, and had this to say yesterday:

The overwhelming thing you get from the movie is: everyone with any shred of power is evil—in the entire world!  There was Matt Damon and George Clooney and one other guy who weren't evil.  So you go through this entire story with all these people evil, and you wonder how these people in Hollywood, the George Clooneys and the Matt Damons... how are they the same people, if this is what they believe--that everyone in government is evil--how are they the same people always fighting for bigger government?

I haven’t seen the film…. but I’ve wondered about that phenomenon.  Conservatives tend to endorse government involvement in limited areas (the military), but typically those areas that for whatever reason can’t be done privately (e.g. the military), and with the general expectation that waste, inefficiency, and some level of corruption are inescapably part of the package.
