2007 Movies -- In Review

It's been three days since I posted a list of movies here! I'm so overdue!

This is a longer list, but I won't fill it up too much with commentary, since I've already commented on many of these films in my award-winning "Blockbuster" series of posts. These are the films that were released in 2007 which I have seen. The first one to post a comment saying "You haven't seen 'Knocked Up'?!" gets a serious thump on the side of the head.

The trick here is that I'm listing the films in my order of preference. This relates not to their absolute level of quality, but just how much I enjoyed watching them.

Top Ten Movies

This isn't my top ten list, this is the top ten films in terms of money grossed. I offer my opinions, for my own amusement:

1) Spider-man 3 -- Was there a more disappointing sequel this year? I don't think so. There were some nice touches, but overall, far inferior to the previous films in the series, and to most of the films in this list.

2) Shrek the Third -- I found the first Shrek enjoyable, and the second also enjoyable. I didn't really see a point to the third, so I didn't go. I'm not really rushing to Blockbuster, either.

3) Transformers -- Pure, Bay eye-candy, and I loved it. I cannot wait for the sequel that will inevitably disappoint me.

4) Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End -- I thought it was pretty good, but I think I need to see it a second time. These films don't merely suggest repeat viewing. They pretty much require it.

5) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix -- They took the worst book and made it into, not the best film, but really a good one. If they keep up the quality, HP will rival LOTR for sheer impressiveness.

6) The Bourne Ultimatum -- Fantastic movie. I think the second is just slightly better than the other two, but not by much. If they ever do a fourth, they've got a lot to live up to.

7) 300 -- How unlikely can a movie get? Based on a graphic novel about a troupe of doomed soldiers in ancient Greece? Wow. And the movie? Wow.

8) Ratatouille -- I think I just plain got Pixared out. I never saw it. And yes, I know it's brilliant. Meh.

9) The Simpsons Movie -- Does it deserve to make this much? I don't know about that. But I laughed.

10) Wild Hogs -- No, you didn't misread that. Wild Hogs. Really. Number 10. More than "Live Free or Die Hard"... More than "Fantastic Four"... More than every other movie. I am speechless...
