Iraqi Police Enter Najaf Shrine
Good news from Najaf, sounds like. From Yahoo News:Iraqi police took control of the Imam Ali Mosque in the holy city of Najaf on Friday after entering the shrine and arrested some hundreds of militiamen, Interior Ministry and an Iraqi government source said. He said Sadr may have escaped overnight and he appealed to the firebrand cleric to turn himself in. "We urge him to come and turn himself in and he might be covered by the amnesty," Kadhim said."Might"--I like that. Or might not. There are dissenting opinions on what's going on, however.
Al Jazeera television also quoted a senior Sadr aide as denying police had entered the mosque.Mind you, this is the same Al Jazeera that brought us Baghdad Bob's greatest hits--"We have killed most of the [coalition] infidels, and I think we will finish off the rest soon."--so draw your own conclusions.
