Covert Action in Iran

Seymour Hersh reported in the New Yorker yesterday that the US military is conducting secret reconnaissance missions inside Iran to help identify potential targets. Glenn Reynolds replies, "I hope that this is true." So do I--if we're not, shame on us. As Hersh notes, a full-scale military assault would be problematic, and we've seen where the European lets-make-a-deal appraoch leads with Iraq and North Korea.

On the whole, I think the article reflects well on the Bush administration, but I don't get the impression it was meant to. I expect this will lead to a bit of bed-wetting among the president's critics.
